D1: Evaluate the influence of government on factors that contribute to the current patterns of health and illness in the UK.
In this assignment, I will be evaluating the influence of government on factors that contribute to the current patterns of health and illness within the United Kingdom.
Throughout the past five decades within the United Kingdom, the government consisting of England, Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland have put a lot of effort into enhancing the average health of the population within their countries. This has been accomplished through the use of making the population more aware of the risks of health and what can happen as well as ways they can enhance their health, thus making more ideal knowledgeable choices in terms of their health such as exercising, dieting, smoking, education and safe driving.
The most significant influence that the government has had on the population within the patterns of health throughout the past 50 years has been to bring more awareness towards the negative effects of smoking and what it can do to an individual’s health e.g lung cancer. Campaigns such as ASH are raising awareness on the risks smoking has and how to prevent smoking to reduce the rising number of illnesses and disease like heart disease and lung cancer.
