The Sultanate of Oman is located at the southern corner of the Arabian peninsular and it shares border with neighbouring country of Yemen Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates. Its history is one of independence from foreign occupation since its leadership deposed Portuguese colonists in the mid-1700s, and one of alternating between trade and expansionism, and isolation (Cecil, 2006). The ‘Oman’ is sai come from the Arab tribes that migrated to the area from a place in Yemen called Uman. The Omanis were among the first Arabs to embrace Islam, back in 630AD, and Oman became an Ibadhi state ruled by an elected religious leader, the Imam.
