The movie “Precious” based on the Novel “Push” by Sapphire is a 2009 American Drama film, directed and co-produced by Lee Daniels. It is a story of a sixteen year old teenager Claireece Precious Jones who is obese black girl, illiterate person and pregnant twice by her biological father who has continually raped her since she was a child. The movie tackles about how a teenager’s lives become miserable when the parents become negligent and how to be strong against problem’s in life.
The scenes show that young girl memory of physical, emotional and sexual abuse, her fights with her mother at home and her wide fantasy life because Precious fantasizes about being white and blonde or having the charmed life of a celebrity and her burgeoning self-awareness that she is a valuable individual who has been victimized.
This film made me realized that while this is a fictional story, there are people like Precious living in every community. I almost felt guilty because I have a good home and family who support and nurture me even though I’m from a broken family. Everyone is not loved, lucky and supported by their own family. We should be grateful and satisfied for everything we have. I learned that we also have to be strong in life not just for ourselves but also for our loved ones and for those people who love us. I also learned not to be afraid of people who hurt you it must be brave and wise to fight.
