Plato’s allegory of the cave shows that society is in a state of ignorance

Plato’s allegory of the cave shows that society is in a state of ignorance. He illustrates how mankind is unable to see the truth and implies that if we rely on our ideas and perceptions to know the truth about existence then we will know very little about it. Also, the “Allegory of the Cave,” is a metaphor meant to illustrate the effects of education and knowledge on the human soul and how people cannot and do not want to believe the reality. With this, education plays an important role in making a positive difference in society. It empowers people with important information and skills so they can be successful in contributing to bettering society. It also helps instill values, attitudes and behaviors that align with those expected in a society. In this modern time when the internet is readily available and with so much information, education has different role today than it did before. I, as a teacher in grade school, rather than being source of facts and information I should offer applied learning as well as teaching critical thinking skills. In addition, I should also prepare my students in real life challenges and the demand of work life in the society we lived in. Through these, we will be able to help our students to be ready and be competitive in a challenging society.
