Gun control has historically been a serious topic in the United States for American citizens. The Second Amendment to the United States Constitution protects the right of the people to keep and bear arms and was adopted on December 15, 1791. (Wikipedia). This amendment is granting us the right to Bear Arms. If this amendment gives everyone the ability to carry a firearm if chosen too, then how would we control who can and who cannot carry? I tend to question; how do we keep ourselves safe along with our loved ones? How can we assure that the firearms won’t be placed in the wrong hands? There are several different outlooks on the need of gun control and its consistency if put in place. I strongly believe that Gun control is necessary for the safety of American communities and anyone under the age 21 should not be permitted to buy any firearms. Firearms are not meant to be in the hands of the public as they promote violence and destruction, could be easily attained by criminals or troubled persons, and only persuade negative effects on society. According to CNN, statistics show within the first 12 weeks of 2018, there were 17 school shootings where some were hurt or killed. We have innocent by standers who are being killed and taken away from their families because of young clueless students who don’t know any better. Call for transformation in the United States’ regulation of firearms has mounted, specifically each time school shootings begin to take place. The increasing amount of mass shootings on school campuses has begun to raise fears about how current gun legislation is handled. Many argue that in light of the recent tragedies such as the school shooting; 14, 2018 A 19-year-old former student whose behavior had led to discipline issues, began shooting students and staff members with a semi-automatic rifle at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School after activating a fire alarm. 17 people were killed, and 14 others were injured. The suspect, Nikolas Cruz, blended in with the crowd of fleeing students and was arrested in a residential area of neighboring Coral Springs after walking away from the school. He was later charged with murder and attempted murder. March 20, 2018 Great Mills High School: School placed on lockdown after a shooting occurred in the morning. A 17-year-old male student, armed with a handgun, shot and fatally injured a female student (with whom he had a prior relationship) and wounded a male student. The school resource officer fatally shot the perpetrator, while the perpetrator simultaneously shot at but did not harm the resource officer(Wikipedia) I agree that Gun Control should be place in the United State for the protection of all citizens. People in the US deserve to feel protected in this nation. Congress should enforce stronger gun control laws. However, believers against control present arguments against these proposals. Both sides believe they are in the right and the other is wrong, but the fact remains: stronger laws for gun control need to be implemented and enforced to prevent further massacres from occurring.
