Friar Lawrence is a complete mess up. He is pretty bad at making decisions and it is surprising that many people depend on him to do big, important things for them. One of those important things that people depend on him for is marriage. He should not have married Romeo and Juliet. He knew that Romeo was not truly in love with Juliet and that it was just lust that was in Romeo’s eyes. Still, he married them saying, “I’ll help you, because it’s possible that this marriage may transform your two families’ hatred into pure love.” (2.3.92-95) He did not consider that maybe Romeo and Juliet might be cast off from their families or one of them could lose interest in the other but he still went on with it anyways. He not only did something very risky, but when it all went wrong he just ran away.
